This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of operational business decisions.

Work Placement: 

All students enrolled in this course must undertake 400 hours of work placement at an approved hospitality venue. Work placement must be completed successfully in order to gain this qualification.

What are the entry requirements?

Australian Pacific International College has the following entry requirements:

International students must: 

  • be at least 18 years of age and have completed year 12 or equivalent
  • participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs 
  • have an IELTS* score of 6 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
    • educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
    • Completed a Certificate IV level or higher course in an Australian RTO; or 
    • successful completion of ELICOS studies upper intermediate level or above; or
    • successful completion of an APIC's English Placement Test.
    • Applicants without the documented evidence to demonstrate the required English language competence may undertake the Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test online to achieve a result of ACSF level 4 to meet APIC’s English Language entry requirement.
  • participate in Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and Digital literacy test to determine the level of skills and competencies.

*Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 6.

How can I apply? 

To apply for this course, you are required to complete an enrolment form and submit all required supporting evidence including copies of your: 

  • High School Certificate 
  • Proof of English language proficiency as specified in the entry requirements.  

Where to from here? 

If your application is successful, we’ll send you an Offer Letter and Student Agreement. You should make sure you read through this document carefully to make sure you are happy with all of the terms and conditions. If you are, then simply sign the document and send it back to us. 

Once we receive this, we will issue you with a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) letter and an invoice for the first payment. 

The first day of each course will include orientation and induction. Orientation will include information about the campus, living in Australia, accessing our support services and methods for achieving success throughout the course, including course progress requirements.

Student Visa: 

If your student visa application is approved, you should contact APIC and provide evidence of approval. APIC will contact you to confirm your timetable, start date and all other arrangements for your study. 

If your student visa application is NOT approved, you must contact APIC and advise us and apply in writing for a refund of student fees in accordance with our Fees and Refund Policy. 

Course credit 

You can apply for recognition of existing qualifications or skills, knowledge, and experience (credit transfer or recognition of prior learning) as per the information included in our International Student Handbook, which is available at www.apic.edu.au 

 If you are granted course credit, this will affect your course fees as well as the duration of your course.  We will advise you in writing of changes to fees or course duration as a result of the credit. You will also be issued with a new Confirmation of Enrolment.

Training and assessment information

This course is delivered face-to-face in a classroom-based setting, as well as through structured self-study.

The timetable for this course will be advised in your Offer Letter and Student Agreement. 

You are required to attend classes for 15 hours, as well as complete 5 hours of structured self-study per week for 60 study weeks (6 terms of 10 weeks each). Holidays are three weeks per term. 

Class sessions include a mix of theory and practical activities with a focus on creating a real life workplace. 

For the self-study, you will be provided with a self-study guide which includes activities which you must complete and hand into your trainer and assessor each week.

In addition to classroom based learning and structured self-study, you will also need to complete approximately 5 hours of additional, unsupervised study per week including general reading and research for assessments. 

In the final two terms, students will commence and complete the Work placement of 400 hours. The work placement will be completed in a commercial cookery setting (e.g. restaurant, café, function centre, etc) and we will assist you to find a work placement or you can find your own. Your work placement will be discussed in detail with you once you start your course.

You will also need to complete assessments for this course which may include: 

  • Written questions
  • Projects 
  • Presentations
  • Reports
  • Role plays/observations

At the beginning of each unit, your trainer and assessor will outline the assessment tasks that must be completed.

Your classes will be conducted in modern classrooms and you will be able to access Wi-Fi. There are also areas for you to relax, as well as conduct additional study. 

You will be provided with a Student Guide relevant to each unit in your course. Textbooks are also available onsite for you to use and borrow if you wish.

Class Timetable Information 

Detailed class timetable information, including days, session times, trainer details, and classroom locations, will be provided during your orientation session. Orientation is scheduled approximately one week before your course start date. Specific dates and details about your orientation session will be communicated to you once you have signed and returned your Offer Letter and Student Agreement. Course progress and attendance

Satisfactory course progress and attendance is very important in order to meet visa requirements. Please read the International Student Handbook carefully for more information. You will also be provided with further information about course progress and attendance requirements at your orientation. 

Unique Student Identifier (USI) 

All students undertaking nationally recognised training in Australia are required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). 

Your USI allows you to access your training records and results from your training provider, anytime and anywhere. 

If you do not already have a USI, you can create one at www.usi.gov.au  or we can assist you during the enrolment process. 

Please note: A valid USI is required before we can issue your qualification or statement of attainment. 

Student support

We offer the following in relation to support and welfare.

  • access to additional learning resources 
  • reasonable adjustment in training and assessment

You may not have studied for a while, may have English as a second language or need additional assistance with literacy or numeracy. 

Information about student support, including how and when students can access trainers and assessors and other support staff, is provided in a range of ways including through student handbooks, course entry interview process, orientation and ongoing updates.  

We will identify any additional support needs you may have at the time of application and enrolment and may prepare a Student Support Plan for you based on those needs.

Facilities and Equipment: 

The following facilities, equipment and resources will be provided to deliver and assess this qualification:  

  • Training rooms, including desks, chairs, whiteboard, and overhead projector, free Wi-Fi 
  • Computers Lab with access to the Internet. 
  • Digital copies of training and assessment resources 

Practical training in commercial kitchen with: 

  • Fully equipped commercial-grade kitchen appliances and fixtures. 
  • Wide range of small equipment, utensils, and knives for all cooking and baking tasks. 
  • Cleaning materials and food safety systems in place for hygiene and compliance. 
  • Industry-standard environment with proper lighting, ventilation, and realistic training conditions.

Please note that all training and assessment for this qualification is delivered directly by APIC. No third parties are used to provide training or assessment services.
